My core focus for District 4 is to ensure every student in East Charlotte is prepared to thrive in today’s economy and lead in tomorrow’s world. Understanding and approaching policies is the roadmap that guides any organization. Based on my experience as an educator working with educators, parents, and students over the years, I have been taking notes. This section provides you with insights into my viewpoint and approach from an experienced educator’s perspective. With your vote, I’ll bring bold leadership, fresh solutions, and a deep commitment to serving the unique needs of our students, families, and educators in District 4.

Integration of AI in Education

The use of AI to prepare our students for success:

AI for the Future: Use AI tools to prepare students for tomorrow’s workforce.
Personalized Learning: Tailor instruction to meet each student’s unique needs.
Closing Gaps: Apply AI to identify and support students who are falling behind, with a solution.
Digital Skills: Equip students with the tech skills needed to lead in an AI-driven economy.

Funding and Resources

In light of federal funding cuts, I propose a multi-layered approach:

Build Stronger Partnerships: Work with local businesses, nonprofits, and state agencies to bring in new resources.
Protect and Expand Current Funding Sources: Identify alternative methods for funding to avoid district cuts by identifying sponsors, donors, and partnerships.
Showcase Impact: Improve data collection to highlight CMS progress and build stakeholder confidence to invest in our students.

Equity in Education

In the face of challenges to inclusion:

Equity for students: Protect LGBTQ+ youth, students with disabilities, and all marginalized groups.
Trauma-Informed: Support academic and emotional needs with proven practices.
Inclusive Policies: Ensure curricula and policies respect every student.
Protect Rights: Defend equitable education for special needs students.

Social Emotional Learning View Point

As a CMS teacher, I strongly support the CASEL 5 model social-emotional framework that targets the wellbing of students, which is excellent; however, it has not been used to its full potential. I would help students by:

Proven Framework: Advocate for full use of the CASEL 5 model.
Teacher Training: Equip educators with stronger SEL tools and support.
Parent & Community Awareness: Build understanding of SEL’s impact beyond the classroom.
Student Success: Prepare students for life, not just tests.
