🧑‍🏫 About Dr. Robert L. Edwards, Ed.D.

 

Dr. Robert L. Edwards is an educator, behavioral health specialist, and lifelong advocate for equity. With over 20 years of experience in K-12 public and private schools, higher education, and community health, he has dedicated his career to helping students and families thrive. 

 

🎓 Professional Experience

 

  • Educator & Case Manager: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (EC/Behavior Modification, IEP compliance, and student advocacy). 

  • Director of Fine Arts & Instructor: Johnson C. Smith University, Shaw University, and St. Augustine’s College. 

    • Tasked with improving graduation rates, recruitment, managing a $1M scholarship budget from two universities, and developing curriculum. 

  • K-12 Music Teacher: Portsmouth Public Schools, Atlantic Shores Private Christian School (Virginia Beach, Virginia), Word of God Christian School (Raleigh, NC). 

    • Responsible for instructing K-12 students in band, general education, and leadership development skills.

  • Operations & Behavioral Health Consultant: AOBB, Inc., implementing trauma-informed practice, case management for best evidence-based practices, and quality control management for Joint Commission Accreditation. 

  • Community Mentor: Worked with at-risk youth enrichment programs, residential treatment programs, and community wellness initiatives. 

  • Business Consultant: Business proposal writing, risk management, strategic planning, and project management.

  • 20+ years of education and behavioral health leadership. 

  • Helped close opportunity gaps for EC and Title I students. 

  • Led accreditation, compliance, and quality improvement for schools and agencies. 

  • Built strong partnerships with parents, teachers, and community stakeholders. 

  • Advocated for trauma-informed practices and expanded student wellness supports. 

  • Earned over 500 hours of professional development in mental and behavioral health.

  • He is currently working towards completing his K-12 full teaching certification.

  • Doctor of Education (Ed.D.): (Cum Laude) Education Administration, Walden University. 

  • M.A. in Music Education: (Cum Laude) Norfolk State University. 

  • Norfolk State University: (Cum Laude) awarded a B.A. in Music Education/Media Production. 

  • With over 500 hours of behavioral health and educational professional development hours.
